Winging it
As much as I love aviation, the only thing keeping the Discovery Wings channel (how many Discovery channels can one person possibly need?) on my TiVo lineup is BBC’s Airport, a documentary series that goes behind the scenes at London’s Heathrow. Interesting stuff.
Huh. Which makes me think… retro airport lounge as design theme. (I’m always trying to think of design themes. Not that I ever have the means to implement them.) No little packets of peanuts, or incessant CNN Airport Network, though. I’m seeing a row of clocks for multiple time zones. Vintage travel posters. Sleek, curvy furniture. Very 1960s Pan Am. I’d hang up some multilingual informational signs, and a huge number on the inside of the front door, as if it were a departure gate. And the bar (a pre-flight drink, sir?) can be shaped like an airline counter. Goodness, how wacky. (If one of you says, “more like tacky,” I swear to god…) Now how do I apply to be a Trading Spaces designer?
These are the thoughts that come to a mind stuck at the office when it’s a gorgeous day outside. Grr.
