On the road

Here we are in New York City! I’m writing from the business center in the lobby of our hotel. This is just a quick post to say that the past two days up here have been great. We’ve got more sights to see today, and then tonight we head back home. Trip report and photos to come.

Glad the trip has been good!

Glad you guys made it. I JUST returned from New York and the Amtrak line from D.C. to New York was shut down for a time due to some trouble with brakes cracking. Seems they got it squared away in time (or you took non-Amtrak equipment). Enjoy!

Can’t wait to see your pics!

*ahem* The suspense is killing me. Let’s hear about your trip already.

Here, here. I’m with Sonal on this one. Hurry back with a recap and some pictures!

David: Heh, we had our own Amtrak experience, to be sure. Only the Acela high-speed trains were shut down between DC and New York, but our own regular Amtrak train was brought to a complete halt for two hours after we were hit by a turkey.

Yes, a turkey.

It shattered and knocked one of the windshields out, so the train could no longer move above a crawl. They had to unload all the passengers at Aberdeen, Maryland, and put everyone back on another that was coming along behind on its way to New York from New Orleans.

I took some photos of the outside of the engine, after we got off the train and were waiting for the next, and I’ll try to get them up on my Flickr site tonight or within the next couple of days.
